This was posted in the "New Wood" thread, I felt it needed it's own thread.

I got an email from Jim Phillips the other day. Attorneys for NHS/Santa Cruz sent him a "cease and desist" letter. They claim to own the artistic style and idea processes from his most popular graphics. He's being forced to stop doing skateboard art after 40 yerars of service. I for one will not be buying any NHS products in the future especially any re-issues of Jim's art. I hope others will join me. Jim deserves better.

I can't support NHS any longer. They wouldn't be anything if it wasn't for Jim's artwork and ideas, yet they continue to screw him over and try to prevent him from making a living. It almost seems personal. Lame!

ps: if there is already a thread on this topic, I'm sorry. I looked, but not that hard. FUCK NHS!

Ah come on guys big corporate business and skullduggery is what the industry is all about:wink:

NHS doin what it does and has done for a long time If I were Jim I would use the publicity to launch a whole line of decks with graphiks puttin it to EM and keep runnin small series with the hopes of C&D letters for each deck

Wage war with Art I would get in line for those

Hey, they can't stop him from drawing in HIS STYLE.

He created HIS STYLE, it's his original vision and his skills.....

They CAN prevent him from using what he created for them (under contract, I presume) as they would own the rights to said artworks.

But - what he creates as new, they can't do shit about.

You cannot deny a person his making a living.

Just more corporate BULLSHIT !!!!!!!!

I hate to say this but it would be interesting to see this play out in court? i think at the end of the day nhs would become the loser - why dont they sue everyone whom does something half similar to there art - good luck - i hate re-issues and c&d stuff i'd like also to see them in court! - ppmurf

A cease and desist is just comman practice these daysI doubt NHS would pursue it. I have to wonder though, was this a shot off the bow, or a "hey, let's fuck with Phillips" corporate prank.

The whole thing seems odd with Phillips junior re-working Dad's art for SC.

That would be the best answer! Its so sad that my favourite company plays such a dirty game. Would like to know whos behind that behaviour and what Jeff Kendall (is he still the teammanager now?) thinks about it. I wanted to get the new Spidey and Kendall 1 reissues as placeholders and some Salba Witchdoctors to ride plus a lot of shirts but with this background I think Im gonna pass. No money for assholes - CAN YOU HEAR ME, NHS???
