So a guy I've done business with before has decks for sale, him and his son had a skate shop out here that closed, says he'll sell me these for $5 each-
I've dabbled in making boards before, mostly a few flat no kicktail solid wood decks back in the 70's, but I'd like to make some decks- mostly for fun. My question is- is it worth my time and trouble to mess with decks that are already printed? I'm not sure if they're screened or transfers. I thought I'd just do a simple one color on black- if I just have to sand the graphic a bit, re-paint them in those areas, and do a stencil art over them.
Is this a good idea? I not after any profit, I'd just like to do it for fun, maybe make some for the kids at my daughter's school, or the local skatepark. I just don't want a big headache, just something to have some fun with without losing to much money.
Thoughts? |

$5 is a steal, even if they're not great quality wood.
With a cheap palm sander you'll have those graphics gone in no time. |

if you're worried about being out $25 bucks, dont get into screening! you will spend hundreds figuring it out! not trying to discourage you, just saying! |

just out of curiosity- how much do small runs of inexpensive finished and/or unfinished decks cost?
Let's say a guy wants to buy about 50 to 100 hundred decks-standard popsicles- what do they usually run at that volume from a decent woodshop? |
