I am stoked to announce on SnB, the roll out of my new business venture.
DownSouthSkates ™ is recently formed with my business partner Robert Rios along with his DownSouthSkates website. It is finally time to take the really really small business up to the next level, you know, a very small business.
I’ve been Down South in San Diego since 1974, which also coincides with my first real addiction to skateboarding. I’ve known from the beginning when I started my Mogulman Skates ™ company, that it was more in line with being a hobby than a business. That it would take a decent sized effort to market and brand “a Mogulman”, kinda ok cool for a nickname and handle though.
It seems 100% natural to return back to my roots and grow from there. We plan on respecting the San Diego past and trying to bring some of that feeling and style out in some of the decks and graphics as we move along and grow.
We also want to try and find new areas to explore, if that could be possible. I had actually been contemplating about going in a different direction for the deck graphics for several months. I had some thoughts and ideas in my mind, and my main thought was about it being art inspired. Something more abstract and pattern based. Then out of the blue, Shawn (gofish) reaches out to me. He talks and I listen, I talk and he listens, and it all seemed to just mesh into existence. Can you say, right place and right time, for me the answer was simple, let’s do it!
With that in mind, it is with great pleasure to introduce our new company with the release of the “Mogul Fish” pool deck with the graphic by guest artist Shawn Ardoin. The Mogul Fish has several meanings for me, one of which is the transition of Mogulman Skates over to the new DownSouthSkates. I was looking for a different fish, different from the original stylized Barracuda I drew for the first Mogulman deck a couple of years back. I wanted something that seemed to appear out of the abyss, primitive and only recently brought to the surface. Shawn nailed it with this one.
Mogul Fish
Length: 32"
Width: 8.9"
Wheelbase: 15.75"
Nose: 5.5"
Tail: 6.5"
medium concave
Canadian Hardrock Maple
Made in the USA (SoCal)
A few are also available in a 8.5" pop deck with a 15.0" wheelbase.
We are still getting our act fully together down here but I would like to offer the SnB members a chance to pick up a deck or two before I get them out to some of the local shops. I just need to verify that my paypal is in good working order and that I have the proper cardboard and shipping boxes prior to accepting any payment. So for now we are accepting pre-orders. Checks, money orders and paypal will work just fine once we are ready to ship (pretty soon actually).
For this pre-sale the decks will cost $45 each and $15 for the shipping and handling (conus). Please post up or PM me with any questions.
I also realize that this will be the first time I have done any type of transaction with the members out here, so no dropping the ball on my part.
Once again, we are completely stoked by the great comments about the new deck.
