I'm reading "The Jungle" from Upton Sinclair...it is one fucked up book. Mostly about the slaughter houses of South Chicago and the immigrants that worked there.

I remember having to read that in high school....

It's got to be the most depressing book I've read...but I couldn't put it down. then I was watching United States of Bacon and they were in Chicago and showed some old footage of the stock/packing yards. Pretty neat to see.

About a dirt poor white kid in Alabama that against all odds gets the bike of his dreams on X-Mas 1963 and the mischief that fallows. Kinda like Stand by me mixed wth some Huck Finn.

Pretty good so far..

In the middle of One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia
Marquez (started it years ago, but never finished it).

Just picked up Death on the Installment Plan by Louis Ferdinand
Celine and an interesting book called The Hell-Fire Clubs, A History
of Anti-Morality by Geoffrey Ashe.

I read this back in 1991 when I lived on Kauai, it's such an epic "true" adventure story.
I heard they made the movie wich will be released in the US April 11, 2013 so I had to give it another read and I'm currantly half way through it / I highly recommend it if you like a good adventure story.

"Kon-Tiki" is an astonishing adventure, a journey spanning 4,300 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean by raft. Intrigued by Polynesian folklore, Norwegian biologist Thor Heyerdahl suspected that the South Sea Islands had been settled by an ancient race from thousands of miles to the east, led by the mythical hero Kon-Tiki. Heyerdahl knew that the trade winds and ocean currents off the South-American coastline bear in the direction of Polynesia. Ridiculed by the scientific establishment, who had concluded that a voyage by aboriginal balsa raft from Peru to Polynesia was impossible, he decided to prove the possibility of his theory by duplicating the legendary voyage. The ensuing expedition was hailed as one of the most fantastic feats of daring and courage of its time.

I'm reading this concurrently with 'Skagboys' by Irvine Welsh. I like to have one fiction and one non-fiction on the go together.

Biography on Graeme 'Shirley' Strachan, lead singer for Australian 70's rock group 'Skyhooks'.

Read this one last night. It doesn't glorify Dahmer.

Interesting read. I didn't know anything about Dahmer or his crimes before I read this, aside from knowing his name and that he was a serial killer.
