Building a 3'4" mini halfpipe for my son. 16' wide. Trying to figure out what to put on top for layers. I was going to put 3/8" plywood for the first layer then 1/4" sanded plywood for the top layer. But got to thinking should I put thicker on? Two 3/8" plywood and that's it or 1/2" plywood with a 1/4" top?

Any suggestions?

1/2" base layer. Ideally 2 of those and a riding surface. Don't bother with sanded ply. It slivers like hell and will be unridable pretty quick. Go Baltic birch or steel or some kinda ramp armour type stuff or Masonite

We used 1/2" plies and masonite for the top layer on ours. Was great, the only drawback is you need to replace the masonite every few seasons. Especially if it's not relatively nice most of the time where you live. It was a little slippy at first but we just used rough sandpaper and scuffed it up a bit.

Never used Skatelite but hear it's great, but kinda pricey.

PS: Way to go building a ramp for the kids! Rad parenting!

Mine was one sheet of 9mm, one of 7mm ply and one sheet of 5mm Masonite.
