Now that is has come that far that even Santa Claus is wearing Vans, Thrasher now became the new hype?
We're on vacation in NYC and I'm surprised to see how many posers running around in Thrasher shirts probably never even held or seen a real skateboard before ... |

Been that way for a while here too. As for Thrasher, they should be more concerned about their hips then their hype. |

Yep , they are all clothing companies now.
I remember all the kids wearing Independant jeans , Tshirts , hoodies and hats about 15 years ago.........."it's the fashion".
Santa Cruz is a sox company as far as I can see here in Australia.
My local ' Chinese import outlet' is full of Thrasher and Santa Cruz 'street wear' available for a quarter of the price of the OG.
I reckon you're seeing all the people wearing Chinese 'rip offs' of what is considered STREET WEAR and fashion.
Blame , Vision for coming up with the shit term of 'street wear'.......
Fuck vision............they started this fashion bullshit.

I think at least 30% of teens now wear "old school" Vans. |

Yeah same here for the past few years already ... Young, old all of them wearing Vans with some fancy pair of trousers on it and a Ramones shirt they bought in H&M not even knowing what it is but it's cool.
Now Thrasher .... Most likely also in H&M available in some time?
What's next Powell Peralta most likely ???
Do these people even have a personality?
Ow yeah let's go for the rockabilly look this year cause that's cool or no it's vintage look next week let's do that, yeah cool dude and tomorrow I'll dress like a punk .... fuck off with your fashion wankers ! |

When I was a grom we couldn't get Vans and couldn't afford Nikes or Converse but we could get no-brand Converse copies cheap at the grocery store and made our own skate shirts with t-shirts we picked up at thrift stores. |

Yeah , it's pretty shit when a dumb bunch of people steal your identity.
I feel sorry for all the bald tennis players that can't wear their 'Fred perry polo shirts' and 'new balance sneakers' anymore.
Bah! |

We did the same. I would go to Army Surplus store and buy fatigue pants and make shorts, then draw skulls or whatver else on them. We would also get hospital scrubs and cut them off too.
We would make stencils and spray paint our T shirts.
For shoes, there used to be a store called Clover. They would have Chuck Taylors on sale cheap like once a year. My mom would buy me 2 pairs. One to keep nice and one to skate in. lol
I would buy black ones, splash bleach on them, and draw skulls and other punk images in the splatter. WOuld also replace the laces with leather ones so they'd last longer.
I miss those days. |
