Hello,

Can you recommend me a skateboard please for a kid of 12 years old? In 2 weeks, it's my nephew's birthday, and he wishes a skateboard. He will use it mostly in the park.

Thanks

Has he been skateboarding long? or his he a beginner? Is this is first skateboard?

Are you looking for a recommendation on a complete skateboard or just a deck?

Does he skate street or the local skate parks?

Hi plankskate,

He is a beginner and it will be his first skateboard. A recommendation for a brand and model for a complete skateboard will be great, he will skate mostly on streets and park alleys.

Thank you.

Take him to a local skateshop and let him decide (while taking advice from the shop staff).

There are no particular recommendations for a beginner's board - except avoiding buying Wal-mart quality completes.

Agreed on both points. No Wal-Mart or "Penny" boards. And support a local skate shop by letting him choose his own setup. If it is something he chooses and likes he'll be more inclined to skate it. Kids are finicky and even the wrong color can keep a kid from wanting to touch something.

Don't go cheap. Get him the best board/trucks/wheels you can focused on the style of skateboarding he is into.

To do otherwise will insure he gets bored of it.

Thanks a lot, guys. I would have liked it to be a surprise, but I think it's better to take him with me to a specialty store to make sure he likes it and not feel embarrassed when he skates in the park with his friends .

Yeah man, the surprise Is taking him to the skate shop.

He can look around like a kid in a candy store.
He can try on decks like trying shoes.

He will be so happy.
Yeah.......πŸ‘πŸ€“πŸ”

And he won’t be so embarrassed when you venture him to the park.......haha......I understand.

This. In 30 years he will be just like the rest of us on this forum COLLECTING skateboards from his adolescence... and a generic ass toy store board he will feel obligated to obtain

I'm still half on the prowl

for a Roller Derby.1985 generic POS.

I think it's kind of cool that Powell is putting 90A wheels on their completes. I think it really make a difference to skate a comfortable wheel to start with. I guess I started on 92A Slimeballs or whatever, and grew up with rough streets.

Okay, good luck. Remember, let the kid have fun!
