hey

i'm living with my girlfriend and her mother. i'm lucky enough to have a closet's worth of space so screen printing is out of the question til we move out and i have a garage again.

i have some boards that need a facelift and i'm bored as f. i want to take some art that i have, put the image on a deck with some carbon paper or something and paint it by hand. what paints would you guys recommend and any pointers could you give? what's the best way to get the image on the board?

all help is much appreciated!

to just paint on the deck with out doing heat transfer or screen printing would be acrylic laytex enamel. made by krylon. you can find it at your local hardware store or walmart or something.

awesome, do you know the best way to get the image onto the board? would that just be the standard carbon paper on the bottom, image on top, then trace or outline the image lightly with a pen?

I went through this kinda thing once...

I wanted a graphic from one of my decks transfered to a canvas so I could do an enlarged copy. I first scaned the deck and assembled the JPEGs so the entire graphic was visable, I then took all of the color out by turning it into a black and white jpeg. I saved the file and took it to the local copy shop where they printed it out on a clear plastic sheet, put that sheet on an overhead projector and enlarged. The whole process sounds hell-ish but it wasnt too bad, one of the local high schools let me use the projector for a couple of hours a day after classes. Good luck with it!!

I firmly endorse Liquitex acrylic paints.

Another way to transfer a graphic to a deck is to get a photocopy of whatever you want to transfer, rub chalk all over the back of it, tape the graphic in place, and trace the lines with a pencil, and then go over the chalk lines on the deck with a pen or pencil, or just paint over them. (This is one of Jedi's tricks...)
