So I just called my local paint store to see if they had nitrocellulose laquer. They do have it, but the guy strongly recommended that I not use it for sealing skateboards. He said it would be much better to go with a polyurethane based finish because it won't crack when the decks flex with usage. I dunno, i'm not sure i'm even planning on skating the decks that I screen, but wanted to get some feedback before I buy. |

Hey.
I just tried something new this weekend. I bought a laquer in a spray paint can style. It works wonders. Dries hard as hell, and gives it a nice glossy coat without brushstrokes. I bought it at Home depot for like 3-4 bucks a can. 3 coats on the deck and it's done. wait about 20 minutes between coats. I've also used waterbased poly brushed on with a sponge brush. It works good too, the spray can is just quicker and dries faster too. |

All lacquers dry pretty fast, but you'll get a much micer coat if you use a hvlp system. Never tried the full pass method...but i'm hesitant because it won't get the sides of the deck, which is where the glossy lacquer really show through. |

@frontside Slappy:
it was called Rustoleum or something like, that. Clear Laquer spray.
I do realize that spraying with a gun would do a better job, but some of us are working on cheap budgets and do what we can. I didn't know about the full pass. Guess I'm ignorant |

No Problem Frontside.
I just gave my buddy his deck I shaped, it was the first one I used that rustoleum spray laquer. We rode our warehouse ramp last night. He said that the deck is SLICK and HARD. That's all I wanted. It's easy as hell too. $3 a can did 4 boards. I put 2-3 coats on each deck. Made it shiney and hard. I like it. Yeah, the homemade garage stuff is fun. I'm not tryin to be the next Powell Peralta or anything. Just doin it cause it's fun shapin the decks and my buddies dig em. I'll post a couple pics when i can. |
