| thoughts? i'd like to have more options than just the wide boards, and these sound like they would help. |

Yes - I have used the Palmer Shock Plate. I loved it. Tho I don't use them now because I ride a Bataleon with the Triple Base and it doesnt seem to need it.
BUT
If you have big feet >11 It go with a riser ... gets you back in to a normal width board which is MUCH more responsive.
Another thing to do is to buy the smallest boot you can find. |

| thats exactly why I want to get them, the selection of wide boards isn't so hot, plus aside from the Never Summmer Legacy, I don't like the way most of them perform. |

you wouldnt believe how much more angle you can get before you get toe/heel drag just by lifting your feet a couple centimeters.
I wear a 10 boot and found some boards are too thin and will get toe/heel drag.
give em a try. |

| the only con i have heard is loss of board feel? im not sure it would be that big of an issue. skiers seem to do fine, and they have been using riser type pads forever |

i love the "board feel" argument ....
come on - you're standing on your highly padded boots, with cushy insoles, on top of a binding, where most have rubber/padded heel and toe ramps. How much board feel can you really have? Unless you're riding the old Lemming boots with the old baseless bindings.
Personally, I go for control and comfort over "feel".
I found that the risers make for a much more responsive carve. Some say too responsive. I guess it just depends on what you like. But for a big boot, I think they are almost mandatory. Unless you like toe and heel drag. |

I used to ride with the Palmer Standard risers on my old board, which was narrower (a Burton Powers 157). It worked great on that and could carve like a muthaphucka.
But, on my new board, it was a bit wider so I don't use them.
I think it all depends on the width of the board and the size of your feet.
It's all personal preference. |

| If your boards waist is thin compared to your boot, get them. Unless you have a convex base board. |
