I love 'em...caught this recipe on the Foodnetwork the other day...
Spicy Portobello Mushrooms and Roasted Red Peppers
Difficulty: Easy
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Yield: 4 servings
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes
4 tablespoons crushed dried oregano
2 cloves garlic, minced
6 large portobello mushroom caps, cleaned, and sliced into 1/2-inch strips
2 (12-ounce) jars roasted red peppers, drained and sliced
In a large skillet, combine the oil, pepper flakes, oregano, and garlic. Place the skillet over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until aromatic.
Add the mushrooms and roasted peppers and cook, stirring, until heated through. Serve immediately with meat, chicken or fish. |

Yeah, they're great as a side. People who substitute them for a main course, telling everyone that "It's just like eating a steak", need to have a real steak stapled to their chest.
It's not just like eating a steak, dipshit. It's just like eating a mushroom. |

Outside my office window grow the famous fly amanita - in the fall. Not one damn hippie fool could tell me how to properly "ingest" the Alice in Wonderland shroom. For a mushroom that is in all sorts of art/folk art/hippie ass drawings, I thought someone could tell me...not even the best mushroom books would reveal anything. Just "Be Careful". Squirrels love 'em and fucking fly...
Shit it was used in salad dressing through the 19th century in France and other parts of Europe. Imagine, some trippy salad followed with a glass of Wormwood Pernot- lovely. |

My wife is a vegitarian. We grill them out on the grill. Marinade them in some kind of concoction, sprinkle some herbs and seasoning on them. Man, they taste great! |

Yeah, love doing the port, onion, carrots, squash in the aluminum foil w/butter, garlic, etc. while you BBQ. Throw on burgers or on the side w/steak. |

Sounds like a pretty specific recipe, Tim. |

LOL!!! W3RD. That's like those people that say "eat fruit instead of junkfood". Yeah, those fucking apples I eat w/ my lunch every day are just as satisfying as the McDonalds that the dude across from me at lunch is eating.
Portabellos taste "meaty". They are by no means a substitute for meat. Just like spankin' it is not a substitute for getting laid--sometimes only the ral thing will do. |
