Does anyone here have any suggestions for the top layer on my driveway quarter? I currently have 1/4" oak with about 3 to 4 coats of spar urathane. This only lasted about 9 months. The ramp is outside & uncovered. I would love to do skatelite or ramparmor, but this is currently not an option due to the finances. Thinking about using masonite primed & painted with porch paint. Don't know if this is the best route to go. Thanks, GK33

I just use 1/4" plywood, sanded one side. Then painted with Kilz primer/sealer.

I think masonite won't weather well.

When you said it only lasted 9 months ... what about it didn't last?

What do you have under it? How many layers?

Ok, I got 3 plys on it. The first 2 were sanded 3/8" plywood and then 1/4 " oak for the final layer. I then topped it with 3 coats of spar urethane. It was smooth as glass at first & water tight as hell. The problem was I slightly countersunk the screws & water got in. Then finish cracked & started to buckle, around most screw holes. It also gets direct sunlight alot. Thanks,GK33

BTW, Porch paint is exterior epoxy paint used for garages & porches. It's supposed to be very durable & waterproof.

Your quarter pipe is small, you should be able to cover that with a tarp.

I used porch/deck paint on my mini; it is definately not slick. Seems to provide a good skate surface for those that cannot afford Skatelite type stuff.

Finnish,or Russian Birch? 1/4 inch , 100% birch , not shop birch. the 3/4"stuff is like 15 ply and glued with no EPA regulations , cuz it's made in russia.1/4"/ 5mm. I've done alot of ramps with all thicknesess . It's all I've used when building stuff in europe. and alot of the vans parks had birch.grips like crete. I have had some unpainted chunks that sit out uncovered in full exposure in the dirt since the first vans park in 1998. still has not delam'd, or rotted out. altough i'm talkin' L.A. weather,10+ years outside is still testament to its quality.
