| So I'm going to comb Craigslist for a used snowboard, what should I look for lengthwise? I'm 5'10" and will use it on little crap in WI. |

My general rule is for park type riding a board that stands up around your neck to chin
For all Mt, free ride one that goes up to about nose to forehead |

I would agree....I ride a 159-160 for all but the mega deep days.
I am 5.10, 155LBS
For deep pow I ride a wide 163 and it floats me through anything. |

| personal preference i guess if it was just screwing around on trashpiles in sconsin i would probably ride a 154-5 im 6" and 190lbs and dont really care for boards over 158 no matter how deep the snow is. |

yeah, 155 is more than rid-able for someone 6ft 180 LBS
You don't wanna be riding the deep stuff but it'll work.
I rode 144 for 2 winters and one summer...never had any issues. |

I'm the same height and would suggest 152-156 for an all-arounder, especially as a beginner.
159+ is just way too long. Mistake in my book. |

it's 3cm longer than a 156...how does 3cm become "way too long"?

My wife rides a 159 and she machs balls........ guess she may just put it out there more than most. 
Anyone can skid around on a tiny board. |

Follow up:
I went with a 159, I bought a cheapie package from The-House. An LTD 159 wide board, Lamar bindings, World Industry boots. I used it once and it was excellent, I'm so damn hooked now.
I got my turns carving pretty good when I want to or sliding to scrub speed. I hit some smaller jumps, the larger was maybe a 3' kicker with about 10 feet of table top clearance. I killed myself the first time with waaaaaaay too much speed and ended up in the back seat about 6' in the air in a full on recliner position, that hurt. I made sure that I went back and hit it with a manageable amount of speed and landed several.
I'm pretty juiced on the whole thing now. 
*edit, I asked my friend, it was more like a 6' jump, who can judge on the approach? |
