I'm totally getting into Kraftwerk these days. Those crazy German fuckers were decades ahead of their time. |

Definitely the Minutemen and firehose of the bands I listened to "back in the day". At the time, I wanted 400MPH distorted guitars, banging drums, and "fuck you" lyrics. I guess I had to mature a little bit before I could appreciate the genius of the Minutemen.
Now that I'm an old man, I really dig a much wider range of stuff, like Townes Van Zandt, old (real) country, Tom Waits, etc.
I recently revisited Black Flag's "process of weeding out" e.p. , thinking that maybe now that I've grown up I'd realize some kind of appreciation for it. Nope. Not there yet. |

I'm currently studying up on the Beatles. Never got into them, could appreciate the talent, but not the hype, or the "they changed the world" aspect so many talk about.
Still don't...
I'm definitely appreciating how Rock, the Counter culture, etc, the spirit of the 50's, 60's and 70's changed the face of the western world, but I'm seeing the Beatles, the Who, Rolling Stones, et. al. as a soundtrack, not a progenitor.
Guthrie, then Holly, Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, I think the tipping point begins with them, the rest were simply on the wave. |

^^^ To me, Buddy Holly is where things took a turn and Rock happened.
The beat was not country, pop, nor rock-a-billy. It was Rock. |

I have been revisiting my "#1 Record / Radio City" double disc every couple years for like 15 years now. Just in case, you know?
But Big Star still sucks. |

Big Star has a couple tunes...
Loudon Wainwright III is awesome. Like an urban John Prine. |
