Well, I scanned some stuff the other day and stumbled onto this.
June issue 1983 of German Monster Mag had this sequence.

Cool sequence YoYo! Also props to you for staying in skating all these years. How long have you been skating?

Thanks!
The sequence was taken with a winder, not motor drive, so a few shots are missing.

Well, I stopped counting after 30 yrs. on board......
I've been competing since 1979 to give you an idea.

And here is the first documented YOYO plant in a contest run; German Nationals September 1982

Fast forward to 2009; same green short, old 80's yellow Tracker tee....

gnarly. i could never get the swing or the momentum to pull one up.

i remember seeing mullen had a trick tip in thrasher or something long ago and still never made the connection to yo-yo plant = yo yo shultz.

sweet.

thanks for the full circle history lesson.

Issue#3 1983 of TWS (with Lance Mountain on the cover) had a sequence in as well

And in Thrasher in the Something else section I had a sequence as well, lemme check.
Edit: Found it.
Feb. 1985 Thrasher

I still wonder how I came up with this trick........
It's all about the coordination of planting the hand on the ground and grabbing the board.
When I am properly warmed up, I can do the stationary, even with my old fat ass......

it makes sense, it's a direct reflection of a handplant that was being done on vert in those days. the step off street plant was a cheater way of looking like you are doing a real handplant. having to step off and thrust up is what made it not skateboarding for me.

for me, with the yo-yo plant, it's the swing i can't get. i just grunt real hard and maybe get sideways for a split second.

i am going to watch your clip some more, work on it and see what i can come up with. hopefully, i can wrangle it in. that good buddies and real deal wooly mammoths have always been out of reach for me.

maybe it's time to resurrect the attempts again.

it would be radical to see this trick make a modern come back in street skating.

now if you can just get eric koston or rick howard to start doing them...
thanks.
