I've now talked to the top 3 builders other than Spohn.

NOT 1: Grindline, Dreamland, or Cal Skateparks has been asked to bid on a project in Long Beach. Not even asked to bid.

I'm sure there is over a million dollars of contracts that has been spent and in the works to procure parks like above from Spohn.

I've found the main contact for parks (As noted above) is a former council member that never skated, parties with Spohn and takes money from the Mayor for the non profit that helps extreme sports at risk kids. In return apparently Spohn gets first and only chances to build.

Is this right?

I'm fine with helping at risk youths and getting decks donated, BUT not at the financial gain of a company that builds lackluster parks that now represent Long Beach. Of course you give kids with Nothing a prefab ramp and they'll be happy. But look at what the money buys vs other local cities - and why not ask the collective skate gang, including the icons that live here.

10-4 - going to talk to the local paper.

Nobody wants to tell me how much is being spent. Just worried to jeopardize future parks.

The ASK at risk angle is good, but as non profit should not be representing a skatepark company or the city- in the mix of city planning and taxpayer $$

Yeah if you read through the previous posts I dropped, Spohn was the contractor before you even had designs. I want to know how that happened, when I was told EVERYTHING must go out for bid. They were nominated before design? My questions also got me off the mailing updates for designs apparently.

Also it seems that being a former council member, now non profit gives them city decision making abilities for the city, while accepting money from the city and working and partying on behalf of a predetermined contractor that's not the city, but being paid by the city?

Am I wrong here? Oversight?
