i know there are clamps that can be bought for this, but i don't have that kind of luxury.

does anyone have a DIY way of doing this?

a customer wants their logo on the side of their hoods. the hoods on the hoodies are lined, so that adds to the difficulty. i've never done it before but at the moment i'm thinking of doing it like this:

taking some coroplast, affixing it to my (7"x 7") platten, then using flat thumb tacks to hold the hood down.

the hood just needs to sit there until i can do 2 passes.

i figure tacks will hold better in plastic than in cardboard.

got a jacket press? you can sandwich it in there.

or maybe stretch it over a youth pallet.

i do have a jacket press...but it's broken.

i don't understand the part about stretching it over a youth pallet.

the problem i can see happening is that i can make the lined portion of the hood stick down to the pallet with some spray adhesive, but the outer piece of fabric i'm printing on won't be stuck to anything. if i do one pass, i can't guarantee the print will line back up with the screen. this is why i'm thinking flat thumb tacks will work.

too bad this is white ink on a black hood. be a lot easier if it was the other way around.

we used to do them with a screened transfer

you need a heat press and the transfer supplies but we could do either side or over the hood didn't matter

hell yea. this is the way to go.

i was going to suggest. if it's just a two pass hit of white on black, maybe just set yourself up a 80 mesh and lay a thick pull down.

stretching over the youth pallet could work long ways. it will just add tension to the garment and allow it not to pick up as much.

but honestly, steve's way is the cleanest, easiest way to approach that problem.

well i do have heat press vinyl and a heat press. but i don't have the stuff to do screened transfers...which would be awesome right now. my plotter can do some really fine cutting, so i might try that.

i just remembered i bought some new vinyl that is really thin and has a soft hand feel to it (cad-cut fashion-lite from stahls). yeah i think that's the best route to go right now.

realized i can't go the heat press route because 2 hoodies need silver print and i'm not wastin my 3M reflective vinyl on them.

so i put my plan into action...and the test print worked out pretty great.

i'll post a couple pictures tomorrow in case anyone is wondering.
i couldn't use my 100 mesh screens because the text was so tiny, i'm sure it would've blurred.

instead, i used some clear base mixed in with the ink to make it less viscous = less squeegee pressure needed = (i would think) means less chance of slippage leading to misalignment on the second pass.

basically just taped coroplast to my platten, covered it in pre-mask (for vinyl stickers), then sprayed adhesive on it to keep the inner layer of fabric from moving. then i put 4 flat thumbtacks in to keep the outer layer of fabric tight.

i feel like the mcgyver of the print industry.

no luckily i didn't. only 22. i did them one at a time, but once i was doing it i realized i could've rigged up all 4 stations and done 4 at a time. the slow part is putting the tacks in and taking them out but really it wasn't that bad at all.
