I've got the flats framed and the trannies up. I am second guessing myself on the spacing for the joists(between the templates)
I was thinking about one ft. apart and maybe tighten up to 6" in the "impact zone".
So far I have been able to use only scraps and with my budget the less I spend on framing the more likely I will be able to get skatelight( or something similar) for the final layer.

Its a vert ramp, so I'm looking at alot of material and every $ I can save makes a big difference to getting this thing done.
Thanks

I use an 8" spacing on everything except really really tight tranny, then I go 6".

I also make a 'T' joist every 24", so when you put your second layer on (staggered 2' from the first layer), there is more 'meat' to screw into.

And I always overlap all seams.

Craigslist can really be your friend when searching for a cheaper alternative to buying fresh new wood straight from an outlet.

Hit me up if you come up on any other ???'s...

That's what I figured.....After doing a mock up I'll go 8" centers. I like the "T" idea. I usually just double up every 2 ft., but the "T" will offer way more bearing. Thanks.
I troll craigslist regularly. So far no luck

yeah, even just 2x4's make a good t-joist, but you can always use a 2x6 on the bottom of the T if it'll give you any more confidence...

i know some guys like to put on the 2nd layer diagonally just to give better seam coverage, but it's a little more time consuming and takes more cuts especially around the outsides and lip of the ramp.

I am sourcing out a final layer called paperstone. Apparently its available in custom sizes. I would love to stager the final layer by a foot from all the sub layers.
It has to be solid. I've been totally spoiled skating crete for the last decade or so.

paperstone, eh?

sounds like it is very similar to skate-lite or ramp armor in terms of the materials - phenolic resin...

love to hear how it is as a skating surface if you go with it...

definitely gonna need a plunge router and a v-bit to countersink that! (best method I've found other than having it factory pre-counter-sunk)

There is a mini I know of that used it. I've been offered a session before I invest. It maybe too slippery for me. The skatelight I've skated isn't my favorite surface. I like the durablilty though.
It is a "green" version of skatelight.
Paperstone is a fraction of the price. It made me realize how much of a scam skatelight is. The product is good, but it so over priced. I guess they will charge what the market will bare.

yeah, that's why we're usually using Ramp Armor over Skate-lite these days, as it's significantly cheaper, but still over $100/sheet.

We tried Ramp X a few years back but they had trouble with consistency of size and color. I think they went out of business shortly after that.

Sure would be nice if there was a comparable product that came in around half the price...

Skatelite is a scam. WAY overpriced.
