Nice, so you're 'Live tracing' photos and then cutting stencils correct?

i've never ever heard of the term 'live tracing' before? what is it? all stencils are about tracing/copying an image, its the nature of the beast

wow, never seen it separated into the different layers like that before,, i have just started using the posterize application on gimp in the last 6mths to create my image but i still manually separate the layers by redrawing each one out by hand from a single master copy. the line up photo of 8 boards are all done old school by using a photo copier to diddle the contrast, then working out by eye the black, white & whatever many grey shades in between. either way i guess it's the same amount of cutting.

...stunning!

I hope you've contemplated using the same technique, but applying the output to a silkscreen. You're tapping into an ages old technique that few nowadays could ever achieve, and could make multiple outputs of the same hard work, limited edition prints!

Live trace is a big crutch that most multi layer stencil artists rely on. Live trace is for the weak! It's a great way to get the exact same results as anyone else that used illustrator and google image search. Not very creative. My favorite part of stencilling is doing the reduction/color seperation with my mind. That is where each artists wtyle comes through in the stencil process.

These above are really nice work.
