I read this article today...

People who skateboard using a type of board called a longboard may be at greater risk for severe injuries than those who use regular skateboards, a new study suggests.

That's like saying motorcycle riders are at higher risk for head injuries compared to kids riding tricycles.

Duh.

Kind of the opposite actually.

90% of longboarders now are not DH or slalom guys (motorcyclists), but rather random civilians who have never skated before (tricyclists). So they eat shit more often and harder.

Yep. Advanced riders know their risks, and take steps to alleviate the danger...Newbies have this mentality that "Oh, it's a longboard, I can't fall off of it," then they hit a tree with their face, or break their fall with their neck.

Yeah, well... I guess there's only so much damage you can do trying to ollie onto a park bench.

If it is because of more inexperienced riders smashing into trees, then all I can say is it's Darwinism at it's best.

I would imagine a major faqctor in the statistics would be long boards go faster.

Unfortunately faster impacts result.

It's a stat survey for a particular facility in which the data or method is not revealed

the only conclusion you can draw from that is the facility presumedly saw more serious injury from the longboard group

I don't think that's accurate. At least not here.
