crosses are ubiquitous and varied symbols. Crosses such as these are old symbols that been around for more than a millennium. Same thing with the swastika, centuries old at least.

In this case the direct inspiration for the Indy logo was the lower red cross seen on the Time magazine cover.

The combination of Red , white and black as a graphic design perspective has always proven to be the most striking....Romans did it first....Hitler stole it....Santa cruz use it....Olsen and Peters like it.

That Finlay - street creep comparison doesn't hold up. Phillips drew an actual skull he had sitting around.

It holds up. Maybe it's more of an inspiration, but the angle and overall concept are directly from that drawing. When you add in this other Finlay, you see more inspiration.

Right. Some graphics are closer than others, but it's not like any of the original SC graphics were just straight xeroxed copies (the way people liked to do in the 90s).

Is the original pic available as a print? I'd love to hang that with the board.

British Vogue January 1990

Do a Google image search for it theres a highish res version of the image that you could get a decent A4 print of. Its a deadlink but you can still save the image out. Alternatively ping me a PM with your email and I'll send it over
