Does anyone know if it's OK to paint Skatelite?

I have a bunch of matt gray interior paint that I want to use on it but I'm worried that it might effect the surface, making it slippery.

Anyone had any luck?

Skatelite is slippery enough, I don't think paint would make it much different. I think interior paint would be an issue staying stuck to it.

Yeah good point. Not too concerned about it wearing off just didn't want to ruin it.

Gonna give it a go.

Cheers

No skatelight experience, but painted ply sheds and builds up on your wheels.
Wish I'd never painted my ramp.
Don't know if paint will stick to skatelight.

I would imagine it might have a tough time adhering.

I'd try it out in a small area to see how it works out before painting all-out.

A poly sealant with a light sand dusting may work better, but I have no experience with this and am just guessing.

Actually, I just noticed you said Skatelite, I was thinking masonite. I don't even know what skatelite is

Nobody does! It's magical.

Gonna test it on a piece of scrap.

I worked at and built the ramps at a skatepark that had indoor and outdoor ramps with Skatelite...

Yeah you can paint it. if it's indoors, Skatelite on its own gets super slippery. Painting it will keep the surface grippy for awhile, but eventually wears off from skating it.

I can't think of any good reason to paint Skatelite if it is on an outdoor ramp unless you are just doing it for cosmetic reasons... (Need some color to match the surrounding buildings, etc... Or if you have different colors of Skatelite mixed together that you want to look uniform. Skatelite surface color does fade from exposure to the elements, though!)

Skatelite was made for outdoor applications because it is (virtually)weatherproof, but people use it indoors because they can.

Yeah that's the only reason really. I like to paint graffiti murals and shit and thought it would be cool to be able to give it a new paint job every now and again. Not concerned with durability just wanted to make sure it wouldn't do anything weird, like attract more moisture in the evenings etc. It's a mix of recycled bits and pieces so a fresh coat of paint might spruce it up a bit.

Cheers
