It's time to replace the fasteners holding down our riding surface. Heads are popping and some have sheared off. We used conventional #8 Robertson 1 1/2" screed first time around. I would like to find something with threads all the way to the head, like a drywall screw. I need something stronger than a drywall screw though. I just skated a ramp that had GRK screws they look great. I'm looking into those. Any other suggestions?

I've always used decking screws, never had any problems.

Those look promising. Great idea thanks.
We used deck screws in the original install. The problem with deck screws is, the threads don't go all the way to the head and the riding surface slides on the bare screw and comes loose....not sure if that makes sense?
I think the hardiest screws should do the job:)

Threads all the way to the head won't help you if there is any space and wiggle room between the top surface, whatever you might have in between, and the wood beams. Over time of riding the screw heads will protrude the riding surface despite any threads. What you need is long enough screws and making sure you get the riding surface all the way down. I will not be able to help with any US specific brands but I know I'm not the only one who prefers a torx head, self drilling screw, with medium to large counter sunk flat head, they're usually a bit more expensive but once you go that route you won't look back.

The GRK screws are torx. I think the biggest problem is the su layers are breaking down from too many Canadian winters. Hopefully we can hit joists with the new screws

What materials is your ramp made of?
That might help diagnose.
