I have two setups from about 10 years ago and both have ACE 55's that if you look at them from the front, look like they're bending in a "U" shape. Is this normal? I think i remember something about this being a defect in the early runs.

They aren't bent. They were designed in a manner so that when you are grinding it directs toward the wheel. It looks bent but its an optical illusion. Best pool/park/vert truck on the market.

Yep, looks like an optical illusion

Let me explain it better, Due to the hanger design, when you go up for a grind in the middle of the truck it is designed to move the grind towards the lower side of the hanger near the lower wheel. The incline on the hanger makes this happen, which again, is by design, and it also causes a n optical illusion that the axle is bent when it really is straight as an arrow.

There were some images taken with wide angle lenses to exaggerate this and those images were put out on the web by some people that didn't like the fact that a former indy employee had gone on to make a new and better designed truck. There were also images taken with regular cameras and cell phone cameras that made the axles look bent. But when examined in real life and lining up straight edges with the axles, you could see the axles were straight.

cool thanks..

On a related note, All my 10 year old bushings are shot. I was given some Indy Reds but they seem like they're too small. Any recommendations?

I'm personally in Love with Ace's bushings. I have a bunch of replacement ones in stock.

Ace sells replacement bushings, you even get a cool lil sticker! Be aware there is a HIGH and Low set.

My Ace 66's hold my fat ass (nearly 300 lbs.) with no signs of bending, and I've put hundreds of miles on them on my commuter board.
Stock ace bushings are great, but I just noticed my pivot cups are cracked, I might go with Khiro, Venom or Riot replacement bushings.

I roll 55s with bones mid bushings, but so loose that if I shake the deck they wobble against the wheel well. Never worn a bushing out yet!

Speaking of Ace bushings....
I've got a pair I've been riding for a couple years, and the barrel bushings (on both trucks) are cracked and splitting, etc. They look like trash, but out of curiosity, I keep riding them. They seem to ride great, and I'm waiting for them to feel lousy.

Still waiting...
