This sort of thing happens in record collecting but there is a big degree of subjective interpretation. I works best when the majority of buying and selling is dealer based and the dealer wants to build a reputation so they grade carefully.

Skateboard collecting is still a collector - collector activity without the dealer middleman. How long befofe that changes?

Once professional dealers get involved in skateboards, so grading will be inevitable.

I couldn't agree more.

I don’t know how it could work but man I wish there was something out there that could keep flippers at bay. Not fun to see people trying to flip stuff you’ve sold them.

terrible idea.

such a hustle.
can costs more than a card is worth to be graded.
f that.

grading killed cards.
skate collecting has already jumped the shark.
they are reissuing the reissues.

lets not make things worse

Link to a documentary on fake antiquities. It shows, what shady characters auction houses, dealers in antiquities and accredited "experts" are.

What worries me is (as others have said) who decides on condition, value etc. How long before we see a skateboard auction at Sotheby's etc?

This link is a sad attempt at being "experts" on collectible skateboards.

If you read it up to the Bruce Logan model Logan Earth Ski, then look at this you can see they know nothing and just lifted it all almost verbatim from.......

That YouTube clip on selling fakes was interesting Danno. Worth a watch. Anyhow, this is just not realistic. Skateboards are too heavy to want to ship off for grading and authenticity, and certainly there are not enough “experts” that anyone would truly rely on for a grade. Also, once graded, you’d have to protect the board from sustaining any future damage, otherwise the grade wouldn’t be accurate. And what collector wants a board that just sits in a protective bag or box? You’d want to display it. Displaying in shadow boxes is pricey and takes up space. This is just a no-go, but I can see why it’s being discussed, and it’s a fair discussion for sure.
