So, I'm writing a song that celebrates the 80's skaters that pushed Mongo like Johnee Cop, Danforth & Roskopp. It's not an anti-mongo song. It's about an old friend of mine that skated mongo and didn't give a fuck that some people talked shit about it. I remember him only riding Danforth decks because he was like "Holy shit! That guy skates like me!". I thought that was cool... and he was and great friend. I want to give some shout-outs to the old Mongo skaters in the song. Who are some pros that pushed mongo back in the day? |

Eric Dressen pushed mongo surprisingly, at least he did in '86. |

I remember seeing him push mongo at an old contest (saw it on video). Years later when he was skating in the Savannah Slamma he was pushing regular. At some point he must have made the concious decision to switch it up. Style was always important to the Venice crew so it doesn't really surprise me. He's one of the all-time greats, for sure. Powerhouse. |

Sorry a bit off topic, in the '90s most pros were pushing switch mongo, surprised that some pros could spend months learning switch lazer flips but not bother to learn to push right. Anyway, good to see the current crop of top pros do seem to have learned to push switch regular. |

Mongo has more power. Totally different geometry & set of muscles. |

I remember playing skate tag in the hallways of a school with my friends. The guy that pushed mongo always won because he could turn corners while pushing. It was weird but he had this technique of pushing and kickturning at the same time and he could cut you off at every corner. |
