Can some one give me advise on opening a new shop? Hopefully, I will be opening a new skate shop this spring in a west suburb of Chicago.
Any tips, advise, suggestions, etc. will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Eric |

no tips but can you give me a tip about a good park your way. Is there any crete in the western burbs besides Hoffman. That park in St Charles doesnt look half bad for a modular park |

I have not skated that particular park, but I've skated a few of those True Ride parks in the north-west. They are really nice for MODULAR parks.
I don't know of any crete parks in the west, but I've been working on a list of all the parks in the Chicago area, but this list is still REALLY rough...

... I have not skated most of these, so the opinions are usually something someone else said. All of the directions are from either Uptown (where I live) or Evanston (where I work). If you have a car, I recommend just heading to Wilson.

dangersticks: I'm starting pretty small. 500-1000 sq. feet storefront focusing on Skateboarding but a little of the "related merch", clothing, shoes, etc. I would like to grow it into a all things Skate and Punk related for kids in the northwest Chicago burbs.
SkateRags: I started that list, cuz I could never keep track of all the parks people were telling me about, and I had no idea which towns were close to Chi and which were down state. So, the list started as a way for me to keep my head straight. I never intended on sharing it with anyone, but I couldn't find another online list with everything in the area. |

small companies will save your ass! don't get inventory heavy. you don't need 100 decks on the wall unless you can turn them over within a couple of months. Punk stuff is cool. if you get into CDs like we did. beware the low markup. i'd recommend developing a relationship with local bands and help consign their stuff. learn about all your products. i have a lot of experience running a retail shop by myself. pm me if you have any questions. |
