hey,
good to hear that CW is gonna get some MAJOR distribution!
yes, too bad it's at WalMart. but, good on ya to Michael B.
for getting the mag to a point where WM noticed it!!
I, almost without exception(ink cartridges for my printer), will
not shop at the WM in my town.
Bad Service, dirty store, rude help, not to mention "edited" cd's;
fuck them and their shitty andy slack heap o shit skate "toys".

I'm hoping that more people will be exposed to a different view of skateboarding. I really hope that Wal-Mart doesn't flex its muscle and ask (read: demand) for changes.
There's a TV show on Wal-Mart as I type this. I hate the company so fucking much that it nearly drives me to an anxiety attack. They stand for everything that's wrong in retail, IMO. I think I need to go pack some boxes now... |

They can flex and demand all they want -- they'll recieve the same answer everyone else who has attempted that strategy has recieved: Sorry, I don't think so.
Michael is no push-over, nor does he play one on TV. |

I doubt that the executives at all of the various companies that Wal-Mart has firmly by the balls are pushovers either.
The more I think about this development, the more it troubles me. |

Im glad CW is growing but I'm suprised people arnt super pissed. What if I just made a deal with Wal-mart to sell my decks there? Wouldnt that be looked down upon? Why is a magazine different? I dont really care either way but alot of people got all fired up when Consolidated had decks in some sporting good stores.
Just wondering....
Good Luck CW |

That'd be fine -- just as long as you didn't cheap out and use China wood... which you'd likely have to do.
Magazines aren't exactly handled the same. |

I don't want to get into how burnt people should feel over this. Isn't Wal-Maret the same place that sells shitty China Andy Mac boards? This is perfect for them, and they're not going to pull the plug on it ever. I don't know what you're reading Green Monkey, but CW is as clean-cut as a skate mag can get. They are putting it on the shelves to boost the sales of their shitty boards they carry. Nothing else. Someone picks up mag. Someone sees that skating isn't necessarily for just gnarly people. They make their way over to the shitty board rack. Bingo! More sales for Wal-Mart.
On another front. Sears and K-Mart just merged. Wal-Mart is, thank Bog, getting some competition soon. |

I disagree. Who could possibly buy a department store crap deck after reading Concrete Wave? The answer: only those that are already lost and unrecoverable. |

I think this is a good thing, and I am confident that Michael and his cohorts will stay true to what has given them so much success so far. 100% Skateboarding!!!!
This could end up two different ways; WM will follow their usual pattern and try to strong arm CW into compromising their content/price/distributing practises, at which time Michael will tell them to Piss Off; or he/they will (God forbid) give in and our worst fears will become realized.
I predict the former. |
