Anyone else have problems getting shoes?
I am a brand new shop with limited budget. I currently have Dekline, but wanted more selection.
So far I've talked to:
DC - "wait for a year"
Fallen - "we're not adding new shops for 8 months"
ES (Sole Tech) - Minimum $5K order!
and contacted many more - and nobody will get back with me.
Who has been good to you? |

There's a lot of pre-booking these days and shoe companies aren't ordering their manufacturers to make much more than has been pre-booked. So in some cases, they have nothing to sell you until the next shipment comes which may in fact be already pre-booked. |

we started most of our brands with $1000 orders. It took alot of calls to get started with the bigger brands but they all fall in place once you manage to get one.
$5000 for soletech shoudn't be too bad between ES, Emerica, and Etnies plus clothing. The funny thing is that with a bigger order it will probably sell through faster than the smaller one. there will be more selection for any potential buyer.
We started our shop slower with smaller orders and it probably hurt us at the start because peoples first impression of the store was minimal selection. |

yep - I'm starting small too, and I know it hurts me a little ... but what can you do? Banks arent too willing to give me tons of money.
It sucks that kids have no problem buying $70 shoes but bitch at the price of a deck. Or will go to the internet or mail order to save a couple bucks. Which they then lose in shipping.
It's turned into a softgoods market. |

is it possible for 2 shops to split orders so that each shop would pay say 2500 on a 5000 dollar order, either with the distro knowing, or just by doing it behind their back? what are the legality issues involved there? |

I bet you'd be waiting for soem sort of legal problem ... I believe the dealer apps usually state that the items have to be sold by the location that is purchasing the goods.
Are there any distributors that are dealing in shoes? |

Is there another shop with in 5 miles from your shop?
How long have you been open?
No distros in US for shoes.
Duffs will open you up no minimum.
Have you called I-path?
You can buy shoes from another shop and sell them in your shop.
You can also buy them online on ebay sometimes cheaper than a dealers cost. If you buy 20 or more pairs. |

I had the same trouble when i opened up in 03. I hit ebay for shoe lots and did that at first. Then i checked with my sales reps from my hardgoods distros, to see if they could get the reps to call me, some did i ended getting savier and that made a lot of loot, they they busted. Now i am starting to get sole tech, and fallen in stock. and i sell tons of deklines
heres the best way, Dekline from Tum yeto, they are coming on strong (the bigger the order the faster they sell, just like real deal said)and if you have an account with them, you are pretty much in. Then when things roll add a brand at a time
and PLEASE have as much soft goods as hard goods
when i opened i had 160 decks full show cases of whels, trucks, etc
and
1 clothes rack, it was my dream shop and i learned in no time that softgoods make it so much easier . if had spent 2/3rds less on hardgoods for all the other crap, i would already be 5 years ahead of where i am
good luck |
