Can you believe it?
I sold a Cardiel Anti Hero deck to a 17 year old. It had a drawing of a topless elf on it.
2 days later, the police make a stop in the store saying that they had a complaint about us distributing pornography. A man saying that we sold a pornographic skateboard to a 10 year old. My wife explaind the situation and everything was cool.
Later that day, the dad came in screaming at my wife (I was running a skatepark fundraiser). He slammed the board on our desk. He was saying that we sold the board to a 10 year old. Called us a detriment to society and were negative to the community. He was calling my wife all sorts of names and said that she should be ashamed as a woman.
Get this tho - he said "if it had been a pot leaf at least I could have been able to explain it to my son!"
WHAAA?!?!?!?
So pot is OK but a drawing of woman is bad? Unbelievable.
We took a hit and gave the money back to the idiot.
Has anyone else run into problems with skate graphics? How have you handeled it? |

| That's f#$%^&g ridiculous! Even if the guy's kid was ten he should know how things work by now. Hell my daughter is eight and we just had to have "THE TALK" with her a couple of weeks ago. (Ever seen a 33 year old man squirm?) Breasts are beautiful.....especially elf breasts! That sucks that you had to give the money back, because I'm betting he's not letting his kid(s) shop in your store again. Screw 'em. |

| A friend with a shop used to get all sorts of controversial board graphics from World/Blind/Plan B/etc., back in the early 90's. I think they would just ship an assortment of stuff, and not let him pick and choose. He kept them in a box behind the counter, and only let the bros know he had them. He told me that there was no way he was going to even display them, much less sell them to some unknown kid. As a result, I still have a Plan B Carroll dumper in the shrink around here somewhere that came from that box. |

man - if I would have been there he would have handeled himself differently. But she's a very strong willed woman and knows how to handle an idiot.
Plus she always tells me that she could verbally kill anyone!
We've been pretty picky about board graphics too. I hate to do it because I want to support ART. Heck we even put a "censored" sticker over it. We're trying to remain "PG" but, there still needs to be room for controversial art too.
oh well ... the idiots are everywhere. |

My local shop owners tell me that there was all sorts of stuff they threw away back then because World made you take it if you wanted the "other" stuff.. Can you imagine what that stuff is worth now?
What happened to the 17 year old that actually bought the deck? How did he become 10? What's he taking because I want some..

True that ... isnt it amazing how women have learned this skill? Was that the special thing they all learned in 5th grade when the boys we learning sex ed?
The kid buying it was 17 ... but apparently his little brother was 10. Whatever. .... all this and the whole time the kid was in here buying the board he was planning on getting wasted that night with his buddies on Red Bull and Jager. As long as he doesnt see any naked women!!! Heaven forbid!!!
Another case of a parent blaming society as to why their kid is a F-up.
All this has me feeling so freaked out about the whole porn thing. I mean, where is the line drawn? Sims snowboards sold decks with porn stars on them. How in the world could a shop sell those?
I mean - look at the Consolidated Boobs deck. That's all and good, but how can I honestly put something like that on my wall? Do I really have to have a "Back Room"?
And, is it really against the law to sell something like that to someone under 18? |

That sucks.
Don't let that one little incident scare you. Anything that is on the bottom of a skateboard is art (almost). And you can't censor art. Don't conform to society and stop carrying questionable decks. Oh yeah, sex sells. |
