Drop decks

ORDER OF THE SKULL ORDER OF THE SKULL

Is that what they're called? Those decks with the lowered riding 'platform' and the trucks that mount from the top.

Well anyway, do any short versions of these decks exist (yeah, I know, it's the LONGboard forum!)? I was thinking these decks might be fun if they had a short wheelbase, kinda like a slalom board. Would it work? Does someone make 'em?

Those are called drop-throughs. Haven't seen it on a short board, but with all the 70's style minis out there now, it's only a matter of time before someone tries it. Could be a pretty fun ride.

There are some that in fact take a popsicle deck and redrill it on the kick nose and tail for a "drop effect" on a short board. I have never tried one but I've read that they carve like nothing else.

thats a pretty cool idea
i've got a few old popsicles sitting around and a set of tracker rtx i need to put on something......
drop slalom board!

With the tight turns you need to take for slalom, just make sure the side of your deck isn't going to scrape the ground! Drop through truck decks (which may be normal on top like the Landyachtz "drop carve" or have a lowered platform like the Landyachtz "drop race" deck), or drop decks where the standing platform is lower than the truck mounting points, are good for stability on downhill stuff where super tight turning isn't needed or huge wheels still give you enough deck to ground clearance when turning.

Take this into consideration when designing a shorter version. Use big wheels, or don't drop it so low that the deck will scrape the ground.

I gots a s&b deck cut as a drop thru. Still got a longer wheel base but it feels way short compared to anything else with the trucks on top.

I am playing with cutting my own out of pigs from the 80's with great results

I've got a set of the same Excate trucks, but I'm gonna use Indy stage 8's, the Excates are to tall, and defeat the whole purpose of this kind of board...... gonna slap on Powell Bombers 68mm..... I'll post pics when it's done.

Okay, so I re-drilled a popsicle I had laying around, put on a mismatched set of trucks I had laying around ( 80's Venture 8" and a Thunder 9"), and put on the Bombers.

Well, it seemed like a good idea- but there was a problem- I weigh 250+ lbs..... and the deck bottomed out when I rode it

Oh well....

I can't find my camera, but I'll take pics when I do.
