groms on pigs...and beyond....
we are literally 7.5 hours away from the new year and I am bursting to tell you some of the things that I know....but, sadly, I am sworn to secrecy. Suffice to say, if you read between the lines in CW and connect some of the dots, it will all begin to make sense.
To kick things off, I can tell you that plans are in the works for a major shortboard company to expand HEAVILY into quivers...longboards, poolboards, mini's etc. They are already testing the waters and things will develop at a much faster rate than they did in 2005.
If you want more clues as to where things are headed, I suggest taking a peak at Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. The fact that you can do berts with Tony Alva's character is something that very few people could even imagine 5 years ago.
Now, fast forward 365 days from now and think what might be...
Happy new year to all...and no, the revolution will still not be televised, but it may be on your tv in the form of a video game...

well it's a little more subtle than Geraldo...
change IS taking place...for a number of reasons.
many people in the industry are afraid of what's happened to their margins, they are very concerned about blanks/shop boards and some are alarmed about the encroachment of the surf mega corps (ie Billaquik)
buying up skate companies.
Is it a perfect storm that has brewed?
In some ways yes...but there is nothing really cryptic going on. All you have to do is connect the dots to realize that things MUST change.
It's been a terrific 15 year run for some of these companies. They have milked things to heights even they could not have forseen. Sadly, many didn't think ahead to the time when skateboarding would become commodified. |
