Went to my local art supply store and they were out of speedball black printing ink for screening. I asked them if there was a substitute and they told me that I could use liquitex or golden brand acrylics. They are very thick paints and I am weary as to whether or not they will work, or if they will mess up my screen, or whatever. A buddy of mine with some experience thought they were too thick to permeate the screen, but he never actually tried. I gotta bunch of acrylics and if this stuff works, it would save me some $. Let me know your thoughts. |

Acrylics are water based so you could thin them down? |

I'm using those exact acrylics right now to paint and they clean very easily, at least brushes and palettes, with water. Not sure if it would be the same with screeens but I can't imagine why not. Something tells me the Speedball inks are very similar in composition but it's been a long time since I used those. |

Nope... but what the worst that can happen? It goes wrong and then you wash it all off with water.........
Acrylics are good stuff - thin with water and waterproof when dry.

Golden, not Liquitex. Liquitex is full of fillers, colors are less lightfast, and they just suck in general. Golden is the way to go. |

Answered my own question on this one. I used my liquitex inks combined with some acrylic extender and the results are pretty good. Since I am only doing a one off deck, this, for me was the way to go. I would not recommend these inks for production runs. |
