Hey, I was reading the thread about Urethane Manufacturers. I have a few ideas for some wheels that I might want to make, but I don't know where to begin. Is there some software that people use to design the shapes? How is it done? Thanks! |

I'd imagine on CAD/CAM. |

Thanks guys! I looked at Maya and I don't think I'm at that skill level yet. Skinny, I was looking at Solid Works. There are two versions, full and LE (limited). Have you, or anybody here, used this program? The reason I ask, is there is a few hundred dollars difference in the price, and since I want to make Skateboard Wheels and not a Space Shuttle, I want to know if I really need the extra features in the full version. |

The add ons are for flowjet and multi axis mills. You could use the standard copy to design. |

The easiet and best program CAD program for desiging wheels is Rhino3d.
www.rhino3d.com
It is a nurbs based (uses bezier curves like adobe illustrator). Super easy to get started.
Maya is primarily a polygon modeling program used for amimation etc.. Steep learning curve but powerful.
Solidworks is great for assemblys (like designing trucks etc..) harder to learn than Rhino
Hope this helps |

Solidworks is your ticket, for sure. LE is more than robust enough! |
