Hey, I was reading the thread about Urethane Manufacturers. I have a few ideas for some wheels that I might want to make, but I don't know where to begin. Is there some software that people use to design the shapes? How is it done? Thanks!

I'd imagine on CAD/CAM.

Thanks guys! I looked at Maya and I don't think I'm at that skill level yet. Skinny, I was looking at Solid Works. There are two versions, full and LE (limited). Have you, or anybody here, used this program? The reason I ask, is there is a few hundred dollars difference in the price, and since I want to make Skateboard Wheels and not a Space Shuttle, I want to know if I really need the extra features in the full version.

The add ons are for flowjet and multi axis mills. You could use the standard copy to design.

The easiet and best program CAD program for desiging wheels is Rhino3d.

www.rhino3d.com

It is a nurbs based (uses bezier curves like adobe illustrator). Super easy to get started.

Maya is primarily a polygon modeling program used for amimation etc.. Steep learning curve but powerful.

Solidworks is great for assemblys (like designing trucks etc..) harder to learn than Rhino

Hope this helps

Solidworks is your ticket, for sure. LE is more than robust enough!
