I scored big today at Magic ... it dumped Saturday afternoon & night and I was on the lift first thing this morning. Then it started puking more snow. Its been a long time since I got it this good, not that rinky dink Magic Mountain is high caliber, but it did the job. Never felt any of that boilerplate lurking underneath all day. And yesterday I hiked all day on this little hill ...

| $56 ... 15 minutes from the doorstep. I'll get to Jay when I can ... we've got family up in Burlington. Magic probably had close to 2 feet. Easily more on the drifts/shoulders. Best terrain in So. VT. |

| magic is fun, and with that much snow, southern VT would have been fun and saved me alot of driving time |

My objective when it comes to snowboarding is bang for the buck. The whole deal is too expensive ... gas, gear, lift tickets, $3 coffee, etc.
The best snowboarders are all wealthy kids. Which makes for a fairly homogenous culture and it fosters a snobbery you never get with skateboarding. And at places like Jay you get that element PLUS Quebecers. No thanks.
So for me hiking hills and going to cheap, antiquated spots is where its at. Most of the folks at Magic is are older skiers. The crusty liftie had Double Live Gonzo playing on a boom box situated next to his 20 year old snowboard. The lack of terrain park or halfpipe filters out all the spoiled punks. The same dynamic was alive at Haystack ... until it closed. And I've learned that the long defunct Timber Ridge is now open again for hike-in access only.
Timber Ridge is my next stop. |

| i could not agree with you more, i used to go to mohawk, suicide six, etc. all the time. Haystack was my pick over mt. snow any day. Now, timber ridge, that was the ancient place on the backside of Magic, right? that place has been closed for 20 yrs. + probably. What is the story with hiking it? |

| They started clearing trails last summer and someone has been running a snowcat to groom it when there is enough snow. I had to leave at noon yesterday from Magic but some guys at the next picnic table were getting ready to hike over (3/4 mile). |

| If you hike over from Magic the ticket might be worth it. Or you can hike in from the old Timber Ridge lodge. I'm going to check out the whole deal next time I'm up there. |

But that somewhat "racist" (sorry for the lack of a better word, I'm one of "those" french speaking Quebecers) comment is really disappointing.
If I would have based my judgement on Americans by the way some of you act in the bars and restaurants around here or by the actions of your president, I would have missed on meeting some of the greatest people I know.
Show up to Joe I slalom race/party in august and I'll introduce you to some really cool Quebecers. Hopefully that will change your mind about us...   |
