The '07 MFOS turned out to be the international event of the year for North America, in a year with several large races. The '08 Maryhill Festival of Speed has grown:

--new campgrounds/athletes village at County Fairgrounds
--now also the IGSA World Championships
--covered by NBC Sports
--more live bands
--more corporate sponsorship, including over $5k just for speedboarders

It's also switching to a "priority registration" system to accomodate the IGSA points leaders in Speedboard, Luges, Bikes and Inline. All the updated information has just been posted on Silverfish for you.

If you've got leathers, an appropriate full face and think you're fast, then Maryhill just may be your ticket!

I'd rather go to Indian school... but Maryhill does look like it could be hella fun if the wind is right.

Indian School, and the other Albuquerque ditches, are a mecca. They're also an outlaw with limited runs and that get shut down by cops. I have been planning a trip for a while now...

Maryhill is virtually unlimited runs on a closed course with World Cup level support in a festival with support of the local town. A whole different ballgame and flavor that's going bigtime this year with NBC's cameras all over the hill.

Skated Indian school all day, didn't see a single cop.

TV. Ugh. I hope they don't make it suck.

I've got to make it down to Maryhill for that event sometime. I went there a few years back for some vintage car hill climb races, and as I walked the hill I couldn't imagine bombing it on a skateboard. Way too rad for me.

Well, if it's this year, North America and you're not heading to BC this weekend, it looks like the Festival of Speed is your last chance for a large scale event.

Aren't Top Challenge, Vernon, and Paskapoo running this year?

Top Challenge has been cancellled for this year due to the unaccessibility of the hill for more than 24hrs, but should come back in 2009. Ascutney VT cancelled too. Munnsville NY is still happening and, from what I heard from some friends, one of the funniest events. The mayor of the town is driving the shuttle bus for the riders...

Ascutney was cancelled.

Top Challenge has been cancelled.

Paskapoo has been cancelled.

The entire Calif DH Series was cancelled.

Munnsville will go forward, and should be quite good. The NorAms should go forward, but w/o a supporting series, who knows?

Maryhill, however, will not only go forward with guaranteed purses and subordinate sponsorships, but television coverage and a huge population of racers both on the course and in the camps. The other events are freaking great, but it now looks to me like Maryhill will be the big boy (other than Danger Bay, which is similarly massive and festive).
