I'll be heading to Colorado Jan 30 through February 3rd with some friends. We're staying in Granby (north of Winter Park). I'm pretty sure we'll be riding at Winter Park one day, snowmobiling the second day, and riding again on Monday the 2nd.

I was wondering what other resort we should consider checking out? I know Steamboat is northwest of Granby, and it looks like the others are southwest. Any recommendations?

I was at Winter Park last weekend!
It was going off the whole time.
By the end of Monday there was at least 6 inches of new powder on the mountain.
Real nice! Tons of snow up there now.

Is Winter Park pretty good then? My buddies wife has been there and she likes it. It's her grandparents place we're staying at, so she knows the area pretty well.

It's been over 10 years since I've been out west, so I want to make it count. That's why I'd like to consider going to another area besides Winter Park. If Winter Park is good, I wouldn't mind going there two days.

I love Winder Park!
Been there probably 10 times over the years.
The other places that are really good and relatively close are Copper Mountain, and Steamboat Springs.
The good thing about these three places are the huge-ness of the mountain.
Tons of runs.

I lived in Colorado for ten years and worked at Copper for a season. I'm sure it changed a lot as access to the back bowls is now a go. The s lift is the highest surface lift in North America, and fun as shit. That sucker shoots you out like a rocket! Will you be riding solo or will there be kids involved? Winter Park is pretty good as a family resort and Mary Jane to the south offers steeper terrain. My personal fav is Berthoud Pass. Cheap, steep, and a sick out of bounds run that take you to the highway at the bottom. You have to hitch back, but rides were never a problem. By all means avoid Vail,Aspen and Breckenridge. That is of course if you dont mind spending a fortune to wait in long lift line , and share the hill with rude assholes. A Basin rules as well , but a lot of tele skiers abound there. Hope this helps a little. Man I miss Colorado. Have fun!

There won't be any kids.

Most of the others going will be skiing though, and several of them are not real experienced.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Damn, I hate going with green horns...
Last weekend we had my dad (can ski, but getting old), my wife, my sister.
None of them were interested in any thing but greens (yawn).

I hear you.

I envision me splitting from the pack, after a few warm up runs.

Steamboat is killer if they are getting dumped on, also you used to be able to pick up multi park passes at gas stations in denver but I have not been back in awhile so I don't know if they still offer them.
